LGBTQ+ and Friends ERG Announces Workplace Pronoun Policy

2022

In honor of Harvey Milk Day and in preparation for this June which marks the 50th Anniversary of Detroit Pride Month, the City’s CRIO Department in partnership with the LGBTQ+ and Friends ERG would like to encourage all employees to add their preferred pronouns to their email signatures and web conferencing names.

Harvey Milk was the first openly gay politician in California, fought for LGBTQ+ rights, and died by assassination. May 22nd, Harvey Milk Day, is an opportunity to serve the LGBTQ+ community, whether you’re a member of it or an ally. The struggles that members of this community have faced in their quest for basic human rights is incredible, and there’s still a long way to go.

In celebration, we encourage you to take this day to support the LGBTQ+ community by demonstrating solidarity through adding your preferred pronouns and learning more about the importance of pronouns. Please take some time today to read the attached policy announcement, which 1) explains the policy, 2) gives instructions how to add pronouns and 3) provides an FAQ on why.
