Mix Tape Zoning: Imagining Detroit's Commercial Corridors

Join a lively panel discussion exploring the future of Detroit's retail corridors and how to ease their revitalization through innovative zoning and land uses. Meet the three ambitious, multidisciplinary planning and design teams -- Farr Associates, Laavu, and SmithGroup JJR - selected by the Planning Department to examine the City of Detroit’s land-use regulations and re-image these rules as a means to reactivate commercial corridors and promote economic development. This panel discussion highlights the process and lessons for lightening red tape - the "Pink Zoning" project -- funded by the Knight Foundation. Come hear how the City plans to use these lessons to encourage the development of targeted commercial corridors through zoning changes, including such options as streamlining approval processes and introducing basic design standards.
