The following In-Progress Streetscape page were identified through community input and City planned frameworks. This page is to list projects in the design phase with funding. 

Detroit is continuing to invest in streetscape improvements below is a list of planned and funded projects across the city. These projects enhance streets improvements may include the following:  sidewalk repairs, landscaping, lighting, pedestrian amenities, ADA accessibility improvements, and other enhancements that create safer, more welcoming corridors. The projects below will support a more vibrant, accessible, and people-focused transportation network.

Status:  Design: The project is currently being designed by the City and its partners. During this phase, engineering plans are developed, public and stakeholder input may be incorporated, and the project is prepared for construction. Construction timelines are anticipated and may change as design progresses.

 

  • Kercheval Streetscape Project

    Kercheval Ave: (Alter to Ashland)

    Status: Design

    The proposed streetscape project at Kercheval Avenue will include lighting, sidewalk improvements, traffic calming, utility work, landscaping, trees, and site furnishings. DPW anticipates construction to begin in 2027.

  • W. Vernor Safety Project

    W Vernor Hwy: (Lacombe to W Grand) 
    Status: Design
    The W. Vernor Safety Project was initiated in response to new developments in Corktown and Southwest Detroit resulting in the increase demand for pedestrian safety. Improvements could include upgrading crossings, bicycle facilities, and adding streetscape elements.

  • Livernois Streetscape Extension Project

    Livernois Ave: (McNichols to Clarita) 
    Status: Design
    The Livernois streetscape extension is a project aims to attract and retain talent in the Livernois-McNichols District by connecting the two already existing streetscapes on Livernois and McNichols. Improvements could include addition of bike lanes, streetscape furnishings (such as benches, trash bins), adjustment to current street median.

  • Mack Ave Streetscape Project

    Mack Ave: (Moross to Wayburn) 
    Status: Design
    The Mack Ave streetscape is an initiative led by Eastside Community Network and will be constructed by Wayne County. Planned improvements include the installation of streetscape furnishings, such as benches, trash bins, and landscaping, along with wayfinding elements including signage and banners.
