Message for Detroit residents experiencing power outages

2026

Detroit residents: If you are receiving this message, power outages have been reported in your area.

OUR ASK: Please take a moment to check on your neighbors, friends, and family members. Vulnerable residents such as older adults, people with disabilities, young children, people with chronic medical conditions, and those without access to air conditioning need your special attention at this time.

CAUTION: During periods of extreme heat, the Detroit Health Department recommends that residents drink plenty of water, limit strenuous activity, take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Please watch for signs of heat-related illness, including dizziness, nausea, headache.

WHAT TO DO: Sit down in the coolest space available, drink water and have a snack. Confusion, fainting, and inability to do simple activities are signs of an emergency, and 911 should be called.

COOLING RESOURCES: Joseph Walker Williams Recreation Center has special cooling center hours on July 4: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Address: 8431 Rosa Parks Blvd, 48206.
