Mayor to deliver final State of the City address from inside new Hudson's Detroit development
- Speech will be first large event held inside city’s new architectural gem on a site that had been vacant since 1983
- Address will be held Tuesday, March 25 and livestreamed on all City social media platforms and website
Mayor Mike Duggan will deliver his final State of the City Address from inside Bedrock’s spectacular mixed-use development on the site of the former Hudson’s Department Store - a site that had sat vacant since 1983 when the store closed its doors.
The Mayor’s speech will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25.
The development on Woodward Avenue includes the second tallest building in Michigan at 685 feet, an office building featuring the new General Motor’s Global Headquarters, as well as a new five-star hotel, condominiums, retail space and event space. The Development at Hudson’s joins dozens of other buildings that have been brought back to life by Dan Gilbert's Bedrock development firm, which has restored, developed and reoccupied several signature downtown properties such as Book Tower, and capped off by Hudson’s Detroit.
“For 40 years since Hudson’s closed, this block has been a huge dead spot in the heart of downtown and a reminder of all that had left the city. Next week, most Detroiters will be able to get their first look inside and when it opens later this year, they will be able to once again feel a sense of wonder and pride being on the Hudson’s block,” Mayor Duggan said.
The Mayor's speech and presentation will be broadcast live on the City’s cable channel (Comcast Ch. 10 in Detroit) and livestreamed on the City’s social media platforms: YouTube, Facebook, X and Instagram.
Streaming of the program begins at 6:30 p.m. and the Mayor's address will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 8 p.m.
