DETROIT ACE AND ART OPS CONTINUE FREE MONTHLY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT and ENTREPRENEUR WORKSHOPS FOR ARTISTS, CREATIVES IN JANUARY

The City of Detroit’s Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship (Detroit ACE) announced Monday that it will continue the free, monthly entrepreneurship workshops it began last fall after the holidays.

ACE partnered with Art Ops to host the year-long professional development workshop series for the city’s creative workforce to help artists improve their business acumen and potential for success. The training is FREE, thanks to the generous support of the Kresge Foundation.

The announcement comes just days before Detroit ACE and the Department of Procurement host the city’s first Artist Vendor Fair to increase opportunities for creatives to get city contracts.

The City is calling Detroit creatives - designers, painters, musicians, photographers, storytellers et. al. to register to become an official vendor with the City of Detroit. Official vendors are notified when any departments are seeking services. The fair will be held from 10AM until 2PM on Wednesday, December 15 on the 13th floor of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center at Woodward and Larned streets downtown. Artists must register at DetroitACE.

The entrepreneurship training sessions are held on the third Tuesday of each month from 6PM to 7PM and feature experts in everything from marketing and brand management to networking and determining pricing for performance and products. In the next session on January 18th, attendees will learn about the “Art of Finance” with Attorney Michael Hall and Consultant Jennifer Montgomery.

Michael Hall is an intellectual property and entertainment attorney at Michael Everett Hall Law, PLLC. He advises entertainers, musicians, athletes, songwriters, radio and television talent, record labels, artists, music and book publishers, event promoters, and authors on issues related to contracts, licensing, publishing trademarks, and copyrights. He will provide his expertise on various subjects ranging from intellectual property to the benefits of having a manager.

Jennifer Montgomery is a multi-passionate multi-hyphenate. She is an emerging serial entrepreneur, marketer, strategist, and financial coach. She is the founder of I AM Fin Savvy, a financial education, and wellness brand, where she leverages her marketing background and develops business strategies and website designs for non-profit organizations, service-based businesses, and entrepreneurs. Her presentations will cover: establishing a domain name; creating a landing page on the web on a budget; learning the essentials of building a website;  and understanding search engine optimization (SEO).

The workshops also will feature additional speakers t throughout the remainder of the year. Those speakers will be announced before each session.

Links to register for upcoming sessions as well as recordings of previous sessions are available on the Detroit ACE website. (detroitartsandculture.com) The remaining sessions are:
