The City of Detroit is looking to get more local contractors ready to do business with the City as part of its 7th Annual Construction Conference, held Friday, January 24 and Saturday, January 25. Over the two-day event, participants will learn how to do business with the City and become a vendor, get information on upcoming bids and proposals, and also network with City departments, and community partners.
The conference features a speed networking event on Friday where general contractors looking for sub-contractors will have a chance to make a connection. The City’s Office of Contracting and Procurement is hosting the speed networking event at the Northwest Activities Center, 2 -6 p.m. on Friday.
“Our speed networking event is an engaging way to make a business connection between contractors and subcontractors in a great environment. And my staff and I are there to help with questions about becoming a vendor and doing business with the City,” said Sandra Yu Stahl, Deputy CFO, Chief Procurement Officer.
On Saturday, conference attendees will have more chances to network and also attend breakout sessions that focus on specific opportunities in various departments and doing business with the City. Several departments will be represented at the conference including the Department of Public Works (DPW), Detroit Water and Sewage Department (DWSD), Office of Contracting and Procurement (OCP), Housing and Revitalization Department (HRD), Building Safety Engineering and Environment Department (BSEED) and General Services Department (GSD), Construction and Demolition Department (CDD), and the Detroit Housing Commission.
Also, in attendance on Saturday will be the Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA), Detroit Building Authority, Civil Rights Inclusion and Opportunity (CRIO), Bridging Neighborhoods, Office of Disability Affairs, Detroit at Work, and the Detroit Historic Commission. Saturday’s event will be held at the Mercado in southwest Detroit from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
“This conference provides a valuable platform for the City and partners to connect with construction contractors to share vital information and upcoming opportunities," said Rico Razo, City of Detroit's Chief of Home Repair & Neighborhood Services. "I encourage all members of the industry to attend this free event.”
