The City of Detroit is inviting residents to attend a series of virtual budget meetings aimed at informing the public on the process and development of its budget and soliciting input on budget priorities.
The first pair of virtual meetings is the Annual Public Budget Meetings where several major City departments will present on their core functions and how they are utilizing their current fiscal year budget. The two Public Budget meetings are scheduled for September 23 and 30 both at 5 p.m.
Starting October 15, the Office of Budget will hold its virtual Budget Priorities Forums in all 7 City Council districts to get resident input on the Mayor’s Fiscal Year 2026 recommended budget. Budget staff will give an overview of the proposed budget, share priority-setting challenges, and take comments. The forums are part of an ongoing effort to engage the public on the process and development of the City’s budget.
"This is a great opportunity for residents to take part in the budget-making process by sharing their priorities with us while also learning about how the City’s budget is formed over several months,” said Donnie Johnson, Deputy Budget Director. “We hope every resident will be able to attend one of several virtual meetings planned in the coming weeks, one in each City Council District.”
