Messmer Park
Messmer Park is a 5-acre neighborhood park located at 4135 Bluehill St in District 4 of Detroit's Eastside. The park features amenities including a baseball field, basketball court, picnic area, playground, and horseshoe courses.

MESSMER PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Improvements to Messmer Park were identified as a priority based on the analysis completed for the Parks and Rec Strategic Plan (PRSP). Funding was received for a full park renovation and construction took place in 2024.
PROJECT TIMELINE
CONSTRUCTION DESIGN
The proposed final design concept incorporates all the feedback received throughout the project and translates it into a park design that everyone can enjoy.
RECENT UPDATES
Park improvement construction is COMPLETE!
By the end of the summer season, the installation of a walking loop, tot lot playground, dog run, new site furnishings, tree plantings, and more was completed.

Meeting #1
An interactive drop-in planning activity was held at Messmer Park. Attendees were invited to walk around the park, observe the existing conditions, and share their ideas for potential improvements.

Attendees were invited to view/comment on the final draft concept plan for Messmer Park. A brief presentation was given, with a Q&A session to follow.

Attendees were asked to rate how much they liked each concept and share their reasons why. The results showed that participants preferred Concept #2 because the Tot Lot was further from the street and the layout seemed better distributed. However, they also liked the picnic pods and dog run in Concept #1.
