Commercial Recycling Program

Recycling for Businesses, Nonprofits, and Multifamily Buildings

The Department of Public Works offers weekly recycling services for multifamily buildings and commercially zoned properties. This program started in 2021 and continues to offer competitively priced recycling services to ensure all Detroit businesses and property managers can responsibly manage their waste.

Interested in learning more? Get in touch with us by filling out the Commercial Recycling interest form or contact the Recycling Coordinator

Whom it’s for:

  • Commercial properties
  • Multifamily residential buildings with more than 4 units (apartment buildings)
    • Residential condominiums are NOT eligible for this service.
    • Residential buildings with 4 or fewer units can participate in the Detroit Recycles single-family curbside recycling program for free.
  • Note that not all properties may be physically suited for recycling service by the Department of Public Works.

How it works:

  1. Let us know you’re interested - fill out the Commercial Recycling Interest Form or contacting our Recycling Coordinator, Madi Opperthauser, [email protected].
  2. We visit your property and educate your staff/residents on how to recycle with confidence
  3. You sign up for 96-gallon carts or 450-gallon dumpsters for weekly service by the Department of Public Works
  4. We drop off your containers, and you can start to reduce your impact on the environment and send fewer materials to the landfill!
