Commercial Recycling Program

Recycling for Businesses, Nonprofits, and Multifamily Buildings

The Department of Public Works offers weekly recycling services for multifamily buildings and commercially zoned properties. The Commercial Recycling program started in 2021 and continues to offer competitively priced recycling services to ensure all Detroit businesses and property managers can responsibly manage their waste.

Interested in recycling? Get in touch with us by filling out the Commercial Recycling interest form or contact the Recycling Coordinator to get started.

Who it’s for:

  • Commercial properties
    • Including nonprofits, small businesses, houses of worship, dining establishments, and any other commercially zoned property
  • Multifamily residential buildings with 5 or more units
    • Residential condominiums are NOT eligible for this service
    • Residential buildings with 4 or fewer units can sign up for the free curbside residential recycling program
  • Note: Some properties may not be physically suited for recycling services by the Department of Public Works.

How it works:

  1. Complete the Commercial Recycling Interest Form or contact the Recycling Coordinator, Becca Serrano at [email protected]
  2. We visit your property and help determine which containers are the best fit for your needs
  3. You sign a contract that outlines annual cost, service location, and frequency
  4. We deliver your bins and educate your staff/residents on how to recycle with confidence
  5. You and your group can start to reduce your impact on the environment and send fewer materials to the landfill!
