Mayor Sheffield appoints Ken Haddad as Digital & Creative Director for the Mayor's Office of Communications

2026

Mayor Mary Sheffield is pleased to announce the appointment of Ken Haddad as Digital & Creative Director for the Mayor's Office of Communications.

Social media is the most powerful communications tool of our time, and Mayor Sheffield's office is committed to using it with intention and skill.

Ken Haddad comes to the Mayor's Office from WDIV Local 4 / ClickOnDetroit, where he spent over a decade building one of Detroit's most trusted digital news operations. He joined as the station's very first social media producer, rose to lead ClickOnDetroit, and ultimately became Manager of Content and Coverage, managing a team of more than 20 reporters and anchors across digital, broadcast, and streaming platforms.

"Ken has spent his career figuring out how to reach people where they are and give them information they can actually use," said Mayor Sheffield. "That experience translates directly to what a city communications office needs to do.”

"In journalism, you cover the city. In this role, you serve it," said Ken Haddad. "I've spent my career making sure people have the information they need, when they need it. Getting to do that from inside the Sheffield administration directly for Detroit residents is a different kind of responsibility. I don't take that lightly."

Haddad was honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Social Media for his work developing a strong social media strategy for a top 20 market local news station. He brings solid expertise in newsletter strategy and crisis communications, and during COVID-19, he launched the "Vaccine Hunter" project on his own initiative, helping Metro Detroit residents find access to vaccines. His efforts drew the attention of President Biden's Chief of Staff, Ron Klain.

In his new role, Haddad will focus on the administration's digital storytelling, campaign development, and web presence.

“Detroit residents deserve a government that communicates clearly and consistently, and Ken understands how to make that happen across every platform,” said Jamie Kaye Walters, Senior Director of Mayor’s Office of Communications. “He has the enviable combination of editorial instinct and digital systems ability. We're so glad to have him."

Ken Haddad officially joins the Mayor's Office of Communications on Monday, March 23.
