City opening seven "Motor City Tech Bars" to offer residents free computer support and repair in their neighborhood

• 7 total tech bars are being installed, 1 in each Council district 
• First 2 locations already open and helping residents 
• All locations expected to be open by June 2025 
• Services available only to residents of Detroit 

Today, the Detroit Department of Innovation and Technology announced the roll out of eight planned Motor City Tech Bars inside the city, with the first two already open and helping residents experiencing problems with their digital devices.

Set to roll out in three phases over the next year, Detroit residents will be able to bring in broken laptops, phones, or other smart devices to be fixed, free of charge. Appointments will be available, although not required, alongside e-waste recyclable containers at each of the locations.

The tech bars will include at least one in every city council district so one is accessible to all Detroiters.  The 8 tech bars will be located inside existing Tech Hubs the city has established to provide greater digital access to residents of Detroit.  Two of the tech bar locations at the Redford Branch and Douglas Branch of the Detroit Public Library, are already open.

In addition to the free device diagnostics and repair, Tech Bars will also offer one on one personalized help, and digital literacy courses.
