The City of Detroit General Services Department is looking to fill hundreds of seasonal positions for summer 2023, prioritizing grounds/maintenance to help keep the Motor City clean, safe, and vibrant.

“Filling our summer seasonal positions is crucial to keeping Detroit beautiful,” said Crystal Perkins, Director of the General Services Department. “After working one season in our Grounds Maintenance Division employees began to take pride in our city and this pride shines for their family and friends to see and follow their lead.”

With pay starting at $15.30 an hour for the General Environmental Technician 1, there are multiple hiring fairs where the City will hire qualified Detroiters on the spot, and those who are 18 and up are strongly encouraged to apply before the fairs.

"What we do best is keeping our city parks and facilities looking good, which is just what the residents of Detroit deserve. We have an army of dedicated employees, that are on duty working hard, who take pride in performing their jobs. We're looking for more of the same, who want to join our team", said Rosemary Edwards, Asst. Director of Grounds Maintenance, General Services Department. "Ultimately, it takes a village, a community to beautify the city, and these jobs allow people to make a big impact."

Though these roles are seasonal, the work is crucial. Tasks range from the physical labor of routine grounds/landscape maintenance work and/or construction, maintenance and repair work, and general cleaning and janitorial work in municipal buildings and facilities. Seasonal Positions can also lead to full time job opportunities within the City of Detroit General Services Department."

"It's all about community pride; We have lifelong Detroiters helping to keep our neighborhoods and parks clean, as their involvement inspire others communities throughout the city to pitch in and become valued city partners,” said Jamal Harrison, Deputy Director, General Services Director.  “We are grateful for their efforts and partnership.”
