City of Detroit offices closed For Good Friday, April 3
- Streets to close on Tigers’ Opening Day
Most City of Detroit offices will be closed on Friday, April 3 in observance of Good Friday. Normal police, fire and water services will be provided. In addition, visitors to downtown Detroit should note street closings for the Detroit Tigers' opening day.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
Refuse, recycling, bulk items and yard waste will be collected as normally scheduled. Also, the drop-off locations are open on Good Friday. The Southfield Yard, 12255 Southfield Road, and Davison Yard, 8221 W. Davison, are open from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. J. Fons Transfer Station, 6451 E. McNichols, is open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
MUNICIPAL PARKING
Motorists may enjoy free parking at meters on April 3. Enforcement of meters will resume on Saturday, April 4 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
The City’s parking facilities are open on Good Friday. Here are the hours of operations over the Easter weekend:
Ford Underground Garage
April 3 - Open from 6 a.m. – midnight
April 4 - Closed
April 5 - Open from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Eastern Market Garage
April 3 - Open from 6 a.m. – midnight
April 4 - Open from 5 a.m. – 5 p.m.
April 5 - Closed
DETROIT DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
DDOT buses will run as normally scheduled on Good Friday through Easter, April 3 - 5.
CONDUCTING BUSINESS WITH THE CITY OF DETROIT
Although offices may be closed, many City services, such as payments of taxes, permit fees, fines, etc., are available online at detroitmi.gov. For some payments to the City of Detroit, individuals also may utilize the DivDat kiosk or mobile app.
Service issues, such as potholes, dead trees, non-working streetlights and more, can be reported anytime through the Improve Detroit app. For more information, go to: detroitmi.gov/ImproveDetroit.
OPENING DAY INFORMATION
STREET CLOSINGS FOR TIGERS' OPENING DAY
For opening day, the streets directly around Comerica Park with be closed off. These include Witherell between Adams and Montcalm, and Brush between Madison and Montcalm.
Motorists and pedestrians should expect heavy congestion in the area surrounding Comerica Park because of foot traffic and various parties/activations taking place near the stadium.
DETROIT PEOPLE MOVER
The Detroit People Mover will be closed on opening day and through Easter as repairs continue. Replacement of the switch component, followed by system tests, must be performed prior to official restart.
Use of DDOT and the QLINE are great options to navigate downtown. DTC is appreciative of its riders and remains committed to restoring regular People Mover service to the community and local visitors as quickly and safely as possible.
