DWSD Water System Upgrades

Updates on Detroit Water & Sewerage Department (DWSD) water system upgrades.

In June 2019, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) launched a $500 million Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to begin to upgrade the water and sewer systems throughout the city of Detroit. This page provides residents and businesses the updates specific to the water system.

Current Projects

  • Cornerstone Village Water and Sewer Upgrades - completion expected June 2022
  • Jefferson Chalmers water main and lead service line replacement - various streets
  • New Center and Virginia Park neighborhood water main and lead service line replacement - various streets - construction complete, restoration for Virginia Park to finish in Spring 2022
