Mexicantown Hubbard Farms
Community leaders reached out to the Joe Louis Greenway team asking that the greenway alignment be rerouted to Clark Park. The JLG team met with Mexicantown Main Street program, Clark Park Coalition, Hubbard Farms Neighborhood Association, Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision, Amelia Earhart Elementary-Middle School, and attended the May District 6 Department of Neighborhoods meeting. Several routes were explored at the meetings and residents overwhelmingly preferred the above route because it minimizes impact on Clark Park, protects the majority of trees, minimizes the amount of new pavement, and will not interfere with school drop-off.
Residents also asked for the following:
- Use the $1M CDN Gordie Howe International Bridge Community Benefits for “trail systems connections and cycling infrastructure” to construct bike lanes on S Clark St. and W. Jefferson Ave.
- Add traffic calming along Christiancy, Porter, and Bagley Streets for safe routes to school connections.
- Add a bike lane connection on Junction Ave from W Fort St. to Vernor Hwy.
- Improve the bike lanes on West Grand Blvd.
Community Meetings regarding this route will be held on the following dates:
July 20th - D6 Department of Neighborhoods, Zoom
August 17th - D6 Department of Neighborhoods, Zoom
