Eliza Howell Park
Eliza Howell Park is Detroit’s third largest park with 250 acres of natural areas, trails and park amenities along the Rouge River in Detroit's Brightmoor neighborhood. The park is a wildlife haven with regular Audubon nature walks, it also has vibrant arts and culture scene, made possible through partnerships with local organizations such as Sidewalk Detroit.

A Community Dinner was held at St. Christine's Soup Kitchen on March 13th, where community members were invited to share ideas, connect with neighbors, and help share the future of Eliza Howell Park.

PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
The City of Detroit Parks and Recreation Division (DPRD) applied for and received state grant funding for improvements at the park focused on nature play and accessibility. Based on past engagement and with upcoming engagement planned, the nature play area and access projects will be developing throughout 2024/25.
PROJECT TIMELINE
PAST UPDATES
Road Reconstruction Project:
A project aimed at improving 1.3 miles of road through Eliza Howell Park is now complete! It included reconstructing sections in poor condition, resurfacing those in fair condition, improving the existing stormwater system, and adding a separated shared-use path with a grass/planted median strip. Construction began in the spring of 2023 and was completed by the beginning of the fall season that same year.
Nature Trail Improvements:
Sidewalk Detroit made some improvements to the existing nature trail south of the park loop road from the trailhead to the pedestrian bridge.
March 2023 Community Engagement:
On March 7, 2023, Parks & Recreation met with residents about a state grant application for Eliza Howell Park. Residents shared what amenities they would like to see in the park updates.
