COMMUNITY MEETING #1

On May 9, 2023, GSD partnered with the Department of Neighborhoods and Planning & Development to host a community meeting about ongoing projects in the neighborhood.  To view the presentation, click on the image below.

Stay tuned for Community Meeting #2 later this Summer!

ABOUT THE JAYNE-LASKY PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

The City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Strategic Plan identified Jayne-Lasky Park as high priority to receive capital improvements.  GSD allocated funding from the current fiscal year's budget to complete a renovation. The improvements must be designed by early this Summer for the project to be completed by Summer 2024 (minus construction/weather delays).  Thanks to extensive planning already conducted in the neighborhood, GSD is able to move quickly.

Jayne-Lasky Park is included in the Campau Davison Banglatown Neighborhood Framework Study conducted by the Planning & Development Department/East Design Region. Community engagement on the park identified that residents wanted more sports at Jayne-Lasky Park.

Site Plan showing where the Multi-Sports Area will be

As a result, GSD created a 2020 Master Plan for Jayne-Lasky Park where sports fields were designed and constructed.   This phase of improvements calls for a "multi-sports area" just East of the existing basketball courts.  Due to popular demand, the project is also providing lighting for baseball diamonds #1 & #2.

We are asking the community to vote for which sports they'd like to see in their Multi-Sport Area!
Based on experience, GSD has suggested options that would fit nicely in the space, are popular in demand, and suit the community.  However, the public can also make their own request for something else to be considered.
We'll be back later this Summer to show design options based on the results of the vote.

VOTING WILL BE OPEN UNTIL MAY 31ST!
