Elmwood Central Park

Elmwood-Central Park (2019 Thornhill Place) is a 15.5-acre park located in the Lafayette Park neighborhood of Detroit. The park features a large central area with a half-mile walking loop, expansive mounded green spaces, a small playground, and multiple walkways that extend through the surrounding residential communities, connecting them to the park. Various intersections of the walkways showcase an architectural concrete jointing pattern, including sculptural blocks in two areas.

PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

The Elmwood-Central Park improvements project aims to replace aging walkways, restore architectural features, and implement amenities as desired and determined by the community.

Based on the results of the first community survey, the landscape architect developed three concept plans incorporating the most requested elements into the park layout. Feedback from a second "Concept Design" survey helped shape the final design for the park improvements. The planned enhancements include plaza upgrades (seating, landscaping, and paint), picnic amenities, a new playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a dog park, and a native meadow area.
