Elmwood Central Park

Elmwood-Central Park (2019 Thornhill Place) is a 15.5-acre park located in the Lafayette Park neighborhood in the City of Detroit. The park has a large central area with a ½ mile walking loop, expansive mounded green space, a small playground area, and multiple branches of walkways extending through surrounding living communities connecting them to the park. Various intersections of the walkways feature an architectural concrete jointing pattern, including sculptural blocks in two areas.

IMPROVEMENTS ARE COMING TO THE PARK:

The project aims to replace aging walkways, restore architectural features, and implement amenities as desired and determined by the community.

Based on results from the first community survey, the landscape architect created 3 concept plans that incorporated the most requested elements into the layout of the park. Feedback on those three designs from a second "Concept Design" survey informed a final design for the park improvements. The planned improvements include plaza enhancements (seating, landscaping and paint), picnic amenities, a new playground, outdoor fitness equipment, a dog park and a native meadow area.

Construction coming in 2024 to spring 2025
