For Users:
Users of scooters should operate the vehicles in a safe manner, keep the public right-of-way clear, and follow any additional rules from the company they rent their scooter from.
Detroit residents that participate in any state of federally-run assistance program are eligible for discounts to scooters.
One Bird
One Bird eliminates the $1 base fee per ride for anyone who is currently enrolled in, or eligible for a state or federal assistance program. To apply for Bird’s eligibility program, email the following information to [email protected]:
- Full name
- Proof of enrollment in a state or federally-run assistance program
- Phone number
Enrollment takes approximately 2-3 business days.
Spin Access
Spin is proud to offer Spin Access, which provides discounted fares for those who qualify. It also provides access to our scooters for people without smartphones, mobile location services, or credit cards.
If you’re looking to receive discounted rates (with or without a smartphone or credit card), you must be enrolled in an official city, state, or federal assistance program (including but not limited to SNAP, TANF, WIC, HUD Housing Choice Voucher, or LIHEAP). You will be asked to verify your enrollment in one of these programs in the application.

Lime Access
To qualify for Lime Access, an individual simply needs to demonstrate eligibility or participation in any state or federally-run assistance program. Lime Access members receive a 50% discount on all electric scooter rides. To apply for Lime’s eligibility program, email the following information to [email protected]:
- Full name
- Phone number
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- Proof of enrollment in a state or federally-run assistance program
A Lime representative will get back to you within 2 business days with any next steps and further information.
Once qualified for Lime Access, you will receive a PayNearMe payment code. To complete payment:
- Take your PayNearMe payment code to a participating
- Show the payment code to the clerk and pay with cash
- Keep your receipt as proof of payment
Link Up
LINK-Up is a reduced fare program for qualifying LINK riders. Discounts begin at 70% and vary by location. Fill out our enrollment form to apply. You'll need:
- A photo or scan of your government-issued ID. For example: a driver’s license, passport photo page, or residence card showing your name and address. You may redact other sensitive information.
- A document proving enrollment in an income-based government assistance program. For example: a photo or scan of your SNAP card, utility bill, medicaid insurance card, or reduced fare card. The documentation should be recent and include your legal name, which must match the name in your government-issued ID.

All companies interested in deploying scooters are to follow the guidelines set forth by the Department of Public Works, updated October 24, 2018.
