The City of Detroit has completed 12th Street/Rosa Parks Streetscape Project in the Fall of 2023. The project included adding new neighborhood identity features, new pedestrian crossings that connect neighborhoods, shortening crossing distances, and improving traffic calming measures.
What changes happened?
The streetscape project aimed to create a safer, more inviting neighborhood while enhancing its identity. The improvements are designed to support all modes of transportation, including walking, biking, transit use, and driving. The 12th Street/Rosa Parks Streetscape project introduced several key improvements including:
+ Enhanced Safety and Comfort: Improved traffic calming measures and safer street crossings.
+ Upgraded Infrastructure: New sidewalks, pavement, and ADA-compliant curb ramps.
+ Stronger Connectivity: Better links to the Recreation Center.
+ Enhanced Neighborhood Identity: Upgraded lighting and landscaping to create a welcoming atmosphere.
+ Improved Pedestrian and Vehicle Safety: New pedestrian crossings and traffic-calming features.
