Friends of Detroit City Airport-Civil Air Patrol
Friends of Detroit City Airport, founded in 1990. FDCA is to expose young people to the fields of aerospace, aviation, engineering, math, project management, science and technology for a career path.
Civil Air Patrol was founded in 1941 in Detroit. It was recommissioned at Coleman A. Young Airport in 2017.
Mission Statement: Supporting America’s communities with emergency response, diverse aviation, and ground services, youth development and promotion of air cyber and space power.
The Civil Air Patrol youth squadron has approximately 23 cadets.
The Annual Community Christmas Celebration began in 2004. The goal is to connect the airport to the community. Gifts are donated and given to approximately 125 children each year.
Airport 101 classes started in 2010. Airport 101 is a free summer program offered for one week open to 4th through 8th graders focusing on aviation and STEM. Last year 12 students were enrolled in the program.
