Current Status: Renew Detroit has successfully completed all repairs for the original Phase 1 applicants who chose to advance within the program. If you need information regarding your warranty, please refer to the program materials provided by our team.
Background: Renew Detroit opened its Phase 1 application period from October 1 to October 31, 2021, offering roof repairs for single-family and duplex homes only. To qualify, applicants had to meet all three program eligibility requirements:
(1) The homeowner must occupy the home as their primary residence and be either aged 62 or older, or a homeowner with a disability (age 18+) by the end of 2021.
(2) The homeowner has an approved 2021 HOPE (Homeowner Property Tax Exemption).
(3) The homeowner has not have received a City home repair grant of $10,000 or more in the past 10 years.
After reviewing applications, the program conditionally selected more than 1,400 eligible homeowners by June 2022 to receive roof replacements. Throughout the summer of 2022, Renew Detroit staff conducted on-site home assessments to ensure that each selected property required a roof replacement and could safely accommodate one without compromising the home’s structure or the safety of its occupants.
