Davis Aerospace Technical High School-DPSCD
Davis Aerospace prepares students to enter the world of Aviation. All students from 9th thru 12th grade have access to a number of Aviation classes. 9th and 10th grade students take classes created by the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) here at Coleman A. Young Airport. In these classes students learn about the history of aviation and about the number of different jobs in the Aviation field. They also begin to learn the fundamentals of flight and aircraft systems. Students then have the opportunity to join our CTE (Career and Technical Education) Flight Training program. In this program students learn a variety of concepts and regulations related to unmanned and manned flight. Students will be prepared to test for their remote pilot’s certificate and be able to join a fast growing career sector in Commercial Drone Piloting. Students will also be able to train in one of our state-of-the art simulators and have the possibility of piloting a real aircraft.
Davis Aerospace was recently accepted to participate in the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS-USA) Program.
The ARISSS contact opportunity will allow students to communicate with the space station and learn from astronauts their experiences about living and working in space.
Current enrollment of students attending classes at the airport is 20.
