Livernois Streetscape Project
In the Summer of 2021, the Livernois project between Clarita and Eight Mile was significantly transformed and enhanced into an attractive streetscape. The improvements include a dedicated left-turn lane, wider sidewalks for café seating, protected bike lanes, and updated landscaping and lighting. The project also involved new roadway pavement, upgraded underground infrastructure, and the removal of the median. These changes make Livernois a more attractive and welcoming corridor, supporting a vibrant community atmosphere and accommodating all modes of transportation.
What Changes Happened?
The Livernois project has transformed the corridor into a more attractive and business-friendly thoroughfare. With key changes that include:
+ Reconfigured Travel Lanes: One lane in each direction has been introduced, along with a dedicated center left-turn lane to reduce speeds and improve safety.
+ Wider Sidewalks: Expanded to 24 feet, the new sidewalks support café seating for businesses and feature updated lighting and landscaping.
+ Dedicated Bike Lanes: Bike lanes are now at sidewalk level, enhancing safety for cyclists.
+ Median Removal: The removal of the median allows for direct left-turn access to residential streets and easier access to businesses. On-street parking is available on at least one side of the street.
These improvements are designed to encourage more shopping, dining, and pedestrian activity while making the area safer for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
