Detroit Animal Care waives adoption fees to help you find your Furever Friend this Valentine’s Day
- City partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation for “Empty the Shelters” event
- Free Valentine’s pet adoptions from February 9 – 15
- Free microchipping and free rabies vaccinations provided for all adopted animals
Detroit Animal Care (DAC) is partnering with the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters campaign with other local shelters to help animals find a loving home for Valentine's Day. The weeklong adoption event will take place February 9th – 15th at Detroit Animal Care, located at 7401 Chrysler Drive. Prospective pet parents can visit the shelter and meet animals that are available and suitable for adoption.
The Detroit Animal Care shelter is open to the public seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
In addition, dogs and cats placed for adoption are fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, to help make sure they are safely returned to their family if they wander off. Detroit residents will receive a free license for their new pet.
“There are a lot of loving animals in our shelter in need of a permanent home and we want to make it easy and accessible for Detroiters to come out and adopt a pet,” said Mark Kumpf, Director of Animal Care. “We are inviting anyone considering adding a pet to their household to also visit our website at Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control, which is updated daily.”
Detroit’s shelter currently is not accepting owner-surrendered pets, due to a temporary staff shortage. Any pet owners whose animal needs medical attention should seek assistance from their veterinarian. Anyone wishing to report a stray animal should call Detroit Animal Control at 313-922-DOGS from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. daily.
