Statement from Mayor Mary Sheffield regarding overnight shootings
Since last night, multiple Detroiters have been shot in separate incidents and sadly, one has succumbed to her injuries.
Each one of these shootings were senseless and tragic.
On the city's east side, a 10-year-old boy was struck along with his mother and two others while at a home on Haverhill St. Just hours later, two women entering a location on E. Warren were struck, leaving one fatally injured. Thankfully, a suspect is in custody for this incident.
While our city has experienced far fewer violent days in recent years, that progress doesn’t lessen the pain when it’s your loved one who becomes the victim.
I want to be very clear to those thinking to bring violence into our community: We will find you and we will hold you accountable.
If that someone is you, I ask you to come forward. You can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP and you will remain anonymous. Silence protects those who commit violence. Accountability protects everyone else.
