Statement from Mayor Mike Duggan on Redistricting Commission

The Voting Rights Act was designed to prohibit overt and indirect limitations on voter access.

Michigan's Redistricting Commission was created to correct the longstanding injustice of legislative district boundaries being drawn intentionally to disenfranchise members of the African-American community, in particular.

Detroit is an 80% Black city and its residents are entitled to the Commission's best efforts to maintain Black representation at the state and federal levels by drawing fair lines.
