Spirit Plaza official season opening this weekend in Downtown Detroit
- Spirit Plaza will continue to offer a wide variety of programs for all residents and operate seven days a week.
- New management partner Total Access Events will manage the city-owned property
- Mother’s Day launch event includes free giveaways, Mother’s Day tea, and more
In 2017, the City of Detroit created Spirit Plaza as “The People’s Plaza”, a public space designed for all citizens to come together, get involved, and experience programming that highlights Detroit voices. Since its inception Spirit Plaza has provided those types of programs and more. This year, in collaboration with Total Access Events we are officially opening for the 2022 Spring/Summer season with a launch weekend of activities on Saturday, May 7th from Noon to 5PM and Sunday, May 8th from 1PM to 3PM. Spirit Plaza is a free event space providing Detroiters with a wide variety of events, operating seven days a week, and located directly at the foot of the iconic Spirit of Detroit statue at the Coleman A Young Municipal Building, 2 Woodward Avenue.
“We want our visitors to come to Spirit Plaza and enjoy the wide variety of programs being offered,” said Keith Flournoy, deputy director, Detroit Parks & Recreation. “Spirit Plaza is a true reflection of Detroit. The Plaza is all about residents enjoying family fun, activities, and entertainment.”
