City of Detroit to conduct Monthly Outdoor Warning Siren System Test on Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m.

2026

The City of Detroit will conduct a test of its Outdoor Warning Siren System this Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. The City of Detroit has 56 outdoor warning sirens throughout the city, covering each of Detroit's seven districts. The siren system is tested on the first Saturday of each month at 1 pm.

The Outdoor Warning Sirens, which are designed to be heard outdoors, not indoors, are used by public safety officials as a warning method in the event of severe weather, an emergency, or a national disaster.

If you ever hear the sirens outside of the testing period, take the following steps:

  • Go indoors as quickly as possible to an interior, windowless room on the lowest level.
  • Tune in to local media to learn about the type of emergency, and follow official instructions.
  • Continue to monitor the media, and emergency notifications on your phone, for updates.
