What is a Streetscape?

The City of Detroit has invested in several streetscape improvements along commercial corridors to create safer, welcoming places for residents, businesses, and visitors. These investments support neighborhood planning efforts and help improve quality of life throughout the city, with a goal to create vibrant, accessible corridors where local businesses can thrive and where people feel comfortable walking, biking, using transit, and driving.

Streetscape improvements may include sidewalk repairs, bicycle facilities, lighting, landscaping, streetscape furnishings (such as benches, trash bins), wayfinding elements (signage and banners), pedestrian amenities, public art, ADA accessibility improvements, and neighborhood branding.
