Enter the Detroit Energy Challenge!
Competing is simple and easy, and you only need to enroll one time in order to compete year after year in both the Detroit Energy Challenge and Michigan Battle of the buildings. For new competitors, begin by enrolling your building(s) here!
The Detroit Energy Challenge is an extension of the Michigan Battle of the Buildings, in partnership with Detroit 2030 District and the City of Detroit Office of Sustainability. With visionary sponsorship by DTE, the program awards local Detroit commercial, industrial and multi-family buildings for energy-efficient practices. Detroit area buildings enrolled in the Michigan Battle of the Buildings are automatically considered for local and state-wide recognition. There is no cost to enter the annual competition.
The 2025 competition will compare the year 2025 to 2024 usage to identify Detroit's biggest losers and award buildings with the greatest energy reductions. Update your utility data in Energy Star Portfolio Manager by March 4, 2026. Energy usage data includes gas, electric, steam (if applicable) and water (optional) for complete 2024 and 2025 calendar years.
