Access for All Program

This program is not funded or administered by the City of Detroit

Access for All is a free nine week Apprenticeship Readiness Training Program. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for successful application into one of several trade Apprenticeships and consists of 294 hours of programming addressing:

• Applied Math and Math Review

• Blueprint Reading

• Building Trades and Labor History

• Essential Employment Skills

• First Aid/CPR/AED

• Green Construction Awareness

• MIOSHA Certification (30 hours)

• Overview of the Building Trades

• Strength and Ergonomics

• Work Keys Assessment

Applicants also complete a week of hands-on-training and participate in several field trips to highlight what specific trades require. Graduates of the program will receive a Certificate of Completion  along with industry recognized certifications (MIOSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR) earned during training.

The minimum program requirements are:

• Must be a Detroit Resident

• Be unemployed or underemployed

• Have a High School Diploma or GED

• Be 18 years of older

• Have a valid Michigan Driver's License

• Pass a Drug screen and physical

• Be subject to a criminal background check

• Complete a TABE ( Tests of Adult Basic Education ) assessment in Math and Reading

Prior to eligibility/program enrollment, candidates must attend 
an orientation and submit the following documentation:

• A valid Michigan Driver's License

• Social Security card

• A High School Diploma or GED Certificate

• Birth Certificate

• Resume

• Proof of Unemployment Benefit Amount (if Applicable)
