START A CITIZENS RADIO PATROL OR JOIN ONE
The Citizens Radio Patrol Program of Detroit is one of the City’s best safety success stories. Established by a Detroit City Council Resolution in 1967, the Radio Patrol Program has been an essential part of the strength and safety of Detroit’s neighborhoods and individual patrols have been established in communities throughout Detroit.
The patrols were established to help serve as extended “eyes and ears” for the Detroit Police Department. Each of the patrols consists of a number of volunteers who commit a small portion of their time each month to serve as a base operator, a driver or an observer.
The volunteers are trained to look for specific signs when on patrol. They report any suspicious activity to the police and NEVER put themselves in danger or confront suspicious individuals.
Incentives:
- Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage totals for each month
- Partner with the DPD to deter crime
- A Safer Neighborhood with EXTRA “Eyes and Ears”
- Unity in the Community
- Improve your Quality of Life
