The Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) offers free, one-on-one financial counseling to help Detroit residents manage money, reduce debt, and plan for the future.
You can get help with:
FEC counselors are trained professionals who can help develop achievable financial goals and connect you with other resources. There are no income or residency requirements. Interpreters are available on request.

The Detroit FEC is a partnership between the City of Detroit, Wayne Metro Community Action Agency, and Matrix Human Services, with support from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund.


FEC Counselors are trained and certified in accordance with the requirements and competencies detailed in the FEC Model Counselor Training Standards. FEC Counselors are employees of Wayne Metro.
