Earth Week

City of Detroit Earth Week 2021

Get involved in our Detroit Climate Strategy:

The City of Detroit has kicked off our climate action strategy to ensure that all Detroiters can thrive and be part of the climate solution, while improving their quality of life! We need your involvement to make it a success! Find out more here, including how you can serve on our Climate Equity Advisory Committee.

Plant a Tree!

Did you know that trees have multiple benefits for neighborhoods, including cooler temperatures, reducing pollution, and promoting active lifestyles? Can your neighborhood collect the most street tree planting requests during Earth Month?

All trees will be planted this Spring for free through Mayor Duggan’s 10,000 Up Tree Planting Initiative. Fill out your street tree planting request for here:  or request a tree by calling or emailing Angel Squalls at 313-224-6391, [email protected]. Be sure to use/mention the HashTag #earthweek to identify you are a part of the contest.

For Eastside residents in the FCA impact area: The Greening of Detroit is excited to partner with Stellantis to plant street trees within the neighborhood of the Detroit Assembly Complex in an effort to restore the canopy on the east side of Detroit. Visit: or email [email protected] or call (313) 910-2732 to get more information and sign up to receive a tree for more information or assistance on signing up.

Plastic Oceans and The Social Forestry Project will be handing out 200 small Red Oak seedlings for people to plant at home (first come-first serve). Please pre-register here

Clean and Green Parks for All!

Our park’s maintenance staff work hard to keep the parks clean, but we all need to pitch in to make sure that our neighborhood parks are clean and green for all! Here are some opportunities to engage:

The Detroit Parks Coalition is hosting a variety of ways to help clean up our spaces through the city and region. Find out more HERE. To safely accommodate the various comfort levels of pandemic life, we have divided the week long event into three program categories: virtual, passive and active.
