Serving District 5 and the Virginia Park neighborhood for 40 years with swimming, dance, boxing workouts and outdoor activities. Every day is a nod to Black History at the Williams Rec Center. Don’t miss the exceptional bust of Dr. Martin Luther King sculpted by Detroiter Oscar Graves inside the center. Joseph Walker Williams was a community member, graduate of the Tuskegee Institute & WWII veteran. After retirement, Williams was an optimistic and tireless grass roots volunteer. His mantra: “I believe I owe something to the immediate community in which I live.”
