PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Known nostalgically as “Derby Hill” and located right down the street from Farwell Park and Recreation Center, Dorais Park will receive improvements funded through ARPA and the Gilbert Family Foundation. Construction in the park will begin in spring 2026 and provide improvements throughout the entire park! The general contractor for this project is MRC (Michigan Recreational Construction), Inc., and you may see various subcontractors on-site for specialized work.
We expect this work to be completed by spring 2027. Park connectivity and walkways will be installed throughout the park; however, different areas will be impacted at different times. At times, there may be disruptions to normal park use, but we will aim to minimize them and/or provide fencing/signage at those times.
Work will begin with the removal of trees and staking paths. Park improvements will include improved park entries, trails (compacted soil and crushed stone), a playground, site amenities (benches and picnic tables), and tree plantings.
If you have any questions or concerns about the project, contact the construction project manager, Rayshaun Landrum, at (313) 236-6105 or [email protected]. You can also follow this web page for progress updates and meeting announcements!
