The Detroit Health Department provides access to a full range of services on the east side of Detroit through its Satellite Services hub at Samaritan Center. It offers immunizations for children and adults, lead screenings, plus resources and referrals for wraparound services.

Children’s Special Health Care Services

Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) provides services to eligible young people up to 26 years of age living with one or more of 2700 qualifying medical conditions, and also persons of all ages with Sickle Cell Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, or certain blood disorders. Eligibility is based on the individual’s diagnosis, severity, and treatment plan—NOT income. A full range of assistance and coverage is available.
 

Lead Safe Detroit

The Lead Safe Detroit Coalition provides health services and lead education, removes hazardous lead sources in homes, conducts school and home water testing, improves compliance of rental owners and strengthens environmental standards for lead.

Maternal Child Health

This division is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women, children and families living in the city of Detroit. Our main goal is to establish and implement equitable, preventive and intervention strategies that address negative or adverse health disparities and outcomes for Detroit residents. Services include: 
 

         Infant Safe Sleep

         Infant Safe Sleep offers classes teaching the ABCs of safe sleep. Classes are held weekly; one-on-one sessions are offered when required. Pack-n-Plays are provided for families who demonstrate a need to establish a safe sleep environment for their baby. 
 

       SisterFriends Detroit

       The SisterFriends Detroit Program focuses on improving birth outcomes and reducing infant mortality by linking pregnant women to resources and services. Women are connected to a mentor who provides social support during pregnancy and until their baby’s first birthday, creating a circle of care. 
 

       961-BABY Resource Line 
       961-BABY links mothers, fathers, and other caregivers to services and resources in the Health Department and with community organizations based on individual needs.  
 

      Fatherhood Program

      The Fatherhood Program promotes the overall health and well-being of men and their children. The program provides education, resources, and supportive services and network for men in partnership with Detroit organizations.

The Safe Routes Ambassadors Program provides bicycle and pedestrian law education at the Detroit Health Department to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries in the city of Detroit. The Safe Routes Ambassadors program provides practical, skills-based traffic safety education, community walk audits, bike safety kits, and physical activity resources.
