Rides to Care

My infant and I get free rides to the doctor. All because I live in Detroit.

New mom, caring for a newborn, or currently pregnant? You get a free ride to your non-emergency medical appointments!

 

The Detroit Health Department’s Rides to Care service will be closed on the following dates:

  • Christmas Eve – December 24
  • Christmas Day – December 25
  • New Year's Eve – December 31
  • New Year's Day – January 1

Regular hours of operation will be available during the remainder of the month.

Giving all Detroit babies their best chance for a healthy start to life

Women who are pregnant, new mothers or caring for an infant under the age of one get free roundtrip rides to prenatal appointments or postpartum doctor visits because they live in the city of Detroit. All riders with children must bring their own car seat.

When can I schedule my ride?

  • Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Services are not available on Sundays or holidays
  • Allow one hour to get to your appointment
  • You can schedule up to one week in advance

Anywhere in Detroit plus five miles.
