Keep Detroit Clean
The Keep Detroit Clean initiative encompasses the various City of Detroit programs to improve neighborhoods by focusing on cleanup and beautification efforts, addressing blight and informing residents of the many options available to help keep the city clean.
DISPOSE OF ITEMS PROPERLY
The City of Detroit collects bulk items (all year) and yard waste (April - December) every other week at the curb. However, when items exceed the limit or include materials not collected at the curb (like construction debris), residents have options.
The Department of Public Works will pick up items for $40 per cubic yard. Call (313) 876-0004 for details or go here
Use the FREE Drop-Off Locations
Residents can dispose of their bulk, yard waste, and household hazardous items for free. Go here for details.
GET REMINDERS ABOUT COLLECTION DAYS
Residents can text their address to 313 800-7905 to receive reminders for trash, yard waste, and bulk recycling collection days.
Also, residents can go to My Home Info on the City homepage to get information specific to their address.
REPORT ILLEGAL DUMPING
If you see illegal dumping in your neighborhood that has already occurred, residents can:
1) Use the Improve Detroit app
2) Contact BSEED Environmental Enforcement at (313) 876-0426 or email [email protected]
If you see illegal dumping in progress, call 911 and provide as much detail as possible (person’s description, car description, the exact location of dumping, etc.) and take pictures or a video.
VOLUNTEER
Motor City Makeover is the City’s annual campaign to mobilize residents to join cleanup efforts across the city. Neighbors come together to clean up an area with the City providing bags and gloves.
Go to motorcitymakeover.org or call (313) 224-4415.
KEEP DETROIT CLEAN HOTLINE
The City has established 224-CLEAN (2536) to provide residents with an easy to remember number to get information on these efforts.
