Police Commissioner Victoria Camille was elected by her District 7 neighbors to serve on the Board starting January 1, 2026. District 7 includes much of the 2nd and 6th police precincts, and small areas of the 10th and 12th.
She has been a member of the National Association for Civilian Oversight of Law Enforcement (NACOLE) since 2022, actively participating in four consecutive NACOLE annual conferences and serving on the Output vs Outcomes Workgroup in 2023. She served as the appointed Secretary to the Detroit Board of Police Commissioners from March 2023 – January 2024, assisting the Board in making significant improvements in processes and transparency of the Board’s administration, decreasing staff vacancies, and assisting the Chief Investigator with establishing the RFP and funding allocation for the new Citizen Complaint case management system.
Police Commissioner Victoria Camille is known as a Detroit organizer and an advocate for community control, accountability, and transparency in policing and law enforcement. In addition, she is deeply committed to collectively creating safe neighborhoods that include alternatives to police, mutual aid, relationships, holistic wellness, food sovereignty, engagement, responsibility, respect, and learning.
In response to neighbors’ desire for a safer and cleaner neighborhood, she co-founded of the Grand River Community Block Club and served as president for five years. During this time, the block club worked collectively with other community groups and City departments (including DPD) to address safety and blight concerns through communication strategies, beautification projects, and relationship building.
Police Commissioner Victoria Camille has built community with various community, grassroots, and labor organizations such as Birwood House, Detroit Association of Black Organizations (DABO), the McKenzie Noble Community Collaborative Drug Free Coalition, Friends of Rouge Park, Riverwise Magazine, Detroit Black Community Food Security Network (DBCFSN), the Boggs Center, Detroit Is Different, Detroit People's Food Co-op, Coalition for Police Transparency and Accountability (CPTA), Detroit Alliance Against Racists and Political Repression (DAARPR), A. Phillip Randolph Institute (APRI), Keep Growing Detroit (KGD), Michigan United, Detroit Action, Greening of Detroit, and others.
She is a proud mother of two adult children and a loving caretaker of her aunt and their fur-babies. She finds joy in gardening and time outdoors, reading, cooking, prayer and reflection, and fostering community connections through shared meals and conversations. Victoria holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Davenport University and possesses over 20 years of leadership experience. She is a certified Wilderness EMT and a nationally registered EMT.
