Plumbing Checklist
Step-By-Step Instructions for completing the Application for Renewal or Registration of Contractor License (Plumbing) are listed below. This document is intended to assist the applicant in properly completing the form. It is important that the instructions are followed closely to ensure that the application is processed in a timely manner.

between the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Applicant must have a current and valid State of Michigan issued Master Plumbing License/Plumbing Contractors License before he/she can apply for Renewal/Registration with the City of Detroit. If the applicant holds only a Plumbing Contractors License, he/she must hire a Master Plumber before he/she can renew or register his contractor license. Note: The application must be notarized. Please be advised that the department has a Notary Public on-site.
Step 3:
Documentation required:
Registration: Current Driver's License or State ID. Current State of Michigan issued Master Plumbing License and Plumbing Contractor License.
Renewal: Current Driver's License or State ID. If Master Plumber hired is Licensed with the State of Michigan, Plumbing Division will require a copy of the current Master Plumber License.
Note: Make checks (starter checks are not accepted) payable to: "Treasury City of Detroit". We also accept cash, credit cards (Master Card, Visa, or Discover only), money orders, and cashier's checks.
Fees:
If the application is submitted by mail, the License will be mailed to the applicant. This process takes 5 - 10 business days.
If the application is submitted in person, the License is issued to the applicant in person on the same day.
Step 4:
A Licenses & Permits (L&P) resource or a supervisor in the Plumbing Division (if L&P can't approve) reviews and verifies the information on the application, and approves it with his/her signature.
Step 5:
Applicant pays applicable fees at the L&P Cashier station.
Step 6:
License is issued the same day (If by mail - 5 to 10 days to process license).
