The applicant MUST be a City of Detroit resident. If you reside outside the City of Detroit, please contact the State of Michigan's Licensing Division.
Documentation Required:
A current City of Detroit Electrical Apprentice Registration Form. The application must be filled out in its entirety, except where noted. Obsolete forms will not be accepted.
A passport-sized photo of the applicant. If you are renewing your Registration, a photo is not required.
Submit documentation of current and valid participation in a bona fide Apprentice Training Program as approved by the Board.
Proof of residency. (e.g.; State of Michigan Driver's License)
Submit a letter of documentation from your current employer attesting to employment related to construction or maintenance of buildings or electrical wiring or equipment under the direct supervision of a person licensed by the City of Detroit or the State of Michigan. Do not include overtime hours in your accumulation of time from your employer. Paycheck stubs are not considered valid documentation.
Step 1:
The Apprentice application and all required documentation must be submitted to the Electrical Inspection Division in Room 408. You may also mail your application to the office at the following address:

BSEED Operational Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Please contact the Electrical Inspection Division to ensure your mailed application was received.
Step 2:
All Apprentice Registrations must be reviewed and approved by the Board of Electrical Examiners before a Registration is issued.
Step 3:
Once reviewed by the Board, the applicant will be notified of the Board's decision in writing.
Step 4:
IF DENIED: The applicant will be sent a denial letter and must submit the requested information to the Electrical Division for Board review and approval.
IF APPROVED: The applicant will be sent an approval letter and invoice for payment of the Registration.
Step 5:
Applicant must pay the Registration fee.
Step 6:
Upon payment, the Apprentice Registration will be issued to the applicant.
