DWSD Continues Effort to Upgrade the Water System by First Performing Condition Assessments -- the Next 39 Neighborhoods Identified
In March, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) and our contractor, Wachs Water Services, will begin performing water main condition assessments throughout the city. The five-month project will consist of maintenance inspections and data collection. This work, which includes water main leak detection and hydrant flushing, should not cause water service interruptions to residents.
Residents will receive door hanger notifications and other communication, including Nextdoor, prior to work beginning in their neighborhood. Work will generally be performed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. The contractor may need to trim or cut trees and brush to access streets and alleys.
The contractor will notify residents when inspections are completed. As a precaution, residents are encouraged to flush water taps after inspections in their neighborhood. Flushing instructions are provided on the door hanger notices.
