A Board Hearing Request form must be submitted before a hearing can be granted.

The following is required EVERY year you renew your Apprentice Registration:

3. Proof of residency (current and valid Michigan's Driver's License or State of MI ID)
4. Proof of actively participating in an approved Apprentice Training Program

If your license has been expired for three years or more, you will have to re-test to obtain the license. You may either call the clerical staff or come to the Electrical Division for further assistance. Please have all documentation available when calling or visiting the Electrical Division office. If it has been two years or less, please call the clerical staff for further assistance. Please note the late fee will apply for those less than the three year expiration date. The clerical staff may be reached at 313-628-2661.
Electrical exam results will be sent to you in writing once scored by the Examiner.

The most expedient way is to register your company with the State of Michigan's Electrical Division. Once you have obtained a State of Michigan Electrical Contractor's Registration, you can then register with the City of Detroit. Click here for information on Registering in the City of Detroit . Yes. City of Detroit Licenses and Apprentice Registrations are valid within the State of Michigan and are equivalent to those issued by the State of Michigan and Grand Rapids.
Journeyman and Master exams are based on the 2011 National Electrical Code. The Contractor's exam is based on the 2008 National Electrical Code.
