No. If you reside outside the City of Detroit, you must renew your License(s) with the State of Michigan.
A Board Hearing Request application must be submitted to the Board Secretary and approved by the Acting Chairman before a hearing may be granted. The Acting Chairman's decision will be sent to you via email and postal mail. For further assistance, please contact the Secretary.
The Board nor the Electrical Inspection Division can recommend exam prep courses. State of Michigan approved courses and providers can be found on C.E. Broker
The following is required EVERY time you RENEW your Apprentice Registration:
- A current City of Detroit Apprentice Registration application. Please Note: Obsolete forms WILL NOT be accepted.
- A notarized letter form your current employer(s).
- Proof of residency.
- Submit documentation of current and valid participation in a bona fide Apprentice Training Program as approved by the Board.
- If your license is expired for three (3) years or more, a reexamination is required. Please contact the Board Secretary for further assistance.
- If your license is expired for LESS THAN three (3) years, please note a late fee will apply. Please contact the Electrical Inspection Division clerical staff at (313) 224-3202 for further assistance.
Electrical examination results will be sent to you in writing once scored by the Electrical Examiner.
TEST RESULTS WILL NOT BE GIVEN OVER THE TELEPHONE.
The most expedient way is to contact the State of Michigan's Licensing Division to obtain a State of Michigan Electrical Contractor's License. Once you have obtained the aforementioned license, you may register with the City of Detroit's Electrical Inspection Division.
Yes. City of Detroit Licenses and Apprentice Registrations are valid within the State of Michigan and are equivalent to those issued by the State of Michigan.
