Department of Neighborhoods Collage

We help improve the quality of life in every district.

Our Mission

The Department of Neighborhoods serves as the City of Detroit’s direct connection to residents, block clubs, community organizations, businesses, faith and school leaders, and neighborhood stakeholders. Through district and deputy managers serving each City Council district, the department builds relationships, promotes civic engagement, and helps ensure residents have a voice in decisions affecting their neighborhoods.

The department engages thousands of residents through initiatives such as Motor City Makeover, neighborhood cleanups, community meetings, and resident-led improvement efforts. District and deputy managers also help residents access City services, support block club development, address neighborhood concerns, and connect Detroiters to programs, resources, and opportunities that strengthen communities across the city.

District Business Liaisons

Each City Council district also has a District Business Liaison focused on helping neighborhood businesses grow and succeed. The business liaison helps businesses navigate City processes; connect to resources to promote growth; and improve the business environment in neighborhoods.
