Mayor Sheffield’s Rise Higher Award for Excellence

mayor with awardees

Every day across Detroit, individuals, organizations, and block clubs are doing the work—uplifting neighborhoods, supporting residents, and creating real change.

The Mayor’s Rise Higher Award for Excellence honors those efforts by recognizing the leaders and groups whose service, collaboration, and commitment are helping Detroit rise higher.

Selected honorees will be recognized by the Mayor and invited to attend a monthly award ceremony.

Know someone making a difference? Submit a nomination below.

Who Should Be Nominated

We’re looking for individuals and groups making meaningful impact in their communities—big or small.

Nominees must be based in Detroit and can include:

  • Individuals
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Community groups
  • Block clubs or resident-led initiatives
  • Self-nominations are not allowed

This isn’t just an award, it’s a way to tell the story of Detroit through the people building it every day.

How It Works

  1. Submit a Nomination
Share the story of someone or a group making a difference.
  2. Monthly Review
Nominations are reviewed by the Mayor and Mayor’s Office staff.
  3. Recognition
Selected recipients are honored at a monthly ceremony and presented with the Mayor’s Rise Higher Award for Excellence.
