Pedal. Roll. Share the Ride. Detroit Moves Better Together.
The City of Detroit’s Office of Mobility Innovation (OMI) is committed to building a smarter, cleaner, and more connected transportation future through its Shared Mobility Program. This initiative supports a growing network of bike-share, e-scooters, ridesharing, and car-free transit options designed to make mobility in Detroit safer, more affordable, and more sustainable for all.
OMI works to regulate, cultivate, and support shared mobility ventures across Southeast Michigan. By fostering strong public-private partnerships, applying data-driven policy, and centering equity in planning, we ensure Detroiters have access to reliable, convenient transportation choices that serve both everyday commutes and recreational trips.
Shared mobility reduces our reliance on personal vehicles—cutting carbon emissions, easing traffic congestion, and promoting healthier, active lifestyles. With options like MoGo bikes and e-scooters, residents can travel short distances efficiently while contributing to the city's climate and health goals.
Together, we're empowering Detroiters to choose flexible, low-cost ways to move while supporting a greener, more resilient city.
Current Projects and Services
Detroit Bike Summit
The Detroit Bike Summit is an annual citywide celebration of cycling, community, and clean mobility, hosted by the Office of Mobility Innovation. Each year, the summit brings residents, transportation advocates, and community partners together for a free, family-friendly day focused on movement, education, and a shared vision for a more bike-friendly Detroit.
This past June, the 2025 Bike Summit took place at Chandler Park and marked the event’s fourth year. Themed “Eastside Bound,” it spotlighted bike culture and mobility access on Detroit’s east side with group bike rides, local food trucks, music, raffles, and direct engagement with mobility providers and community organizations.
With support from College Careers & Beyond, Inc., attendees also enjoyed exclusive giveaways, complimentary meals, and opportunities to connect with city leaders on the future of clean transportation.
Stay tuned for updates on the 2026 Detroit Bike Summit as planning gets underway to build on this year’s success.
Detroit Bike Challenge
Launched in 2021, the Detroit Bike Challenge is an annual, citywide celebration of cycling that encourages residents to explore Detroit on two wheels. Each year, participants complete themed routes across the city—earning prizes, bragging rights, and a deeper connection to Detroit’s streets and neighborhoods.
This past summer, the 2025 Challenge featured new rides, community pit stops, and the return of our Bike Troops—local organizations that hosted and co-led group rides. Riders who completed the full challenge received an exclusive Detroit Bike Challenge Swag Bag filled with gear and giveaways.
Planning for the 2026 Detroit Bike Challenge is already underway. If your organization is interested in joining as a Bike Troop or getting involved, get in touch with us.
MoGo Bike Share
MoGo is Detroit’s nonprofit bike-share system offering an affordable, sustainable way to get around. With over 500 bikes and 50 stations across Detroit, Berkley, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Oak Park, and Royal Oak, MoGo makes exploring the city simple and fun.
Within Detroit, MoGo hubs are located in key neighborhoods like Downtown, Midtown, Corktown, Rivertown, Mexicantown, and Belle Isle. MoGo also offers electric-assist bikes and reduced fare programs for income-eligible users.
E-Scooters
Detroit’s dockless e-scooter program provides residents with a flexible, fast, and affordable mobility option. In partnership with Lime, Bird, and Spin, riders can unlock scooters using a mobile app and travel through the city’s streets within designated zones.
All three providers offer low-cost ride programs for eligible residents based on income. Geofencing technology manages scooter activity citywide, including speed-reduced zones, disallowed areas, and safety curfews.
The City of Detroit works with Ride Report to evaluate performance and user data. The 2024–2025 Annual E-Scooter Report will be available here soon.
The 2026–2027 Scooter Permit Application is officially live as of Monday, December 1.
Companies operating in Detroit are encouraged to apply using the application linked in this post.
The permit window is now open and will close on January 31 at 11:59 PM.
Please submit all required materials before the deadline to be considered for the upcoming permit cycle.
Ride Sharing
Uber, Lyft, and local licensed taxi services operate throughout Detroit, offering flexible options for residents and visitors alike.
Many providers offer discounted rides for Medicaid recipients, seniors, and SNAP participants. While the City does not control pricing, it enforces parking and drop-off rules to protect bike lanes and reduce traffic disruptions.
Please use designated pick-up/drop-off zones where available.
